But to Tyler and Micheal specifically since they're more or less the core of Foxtrot Alpha and seem to have a pretty good grasp of the ISIS/Middle East situation (or as well as anyone)

I just want to know !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , want to join an active terrorist group who is currently murdering thousands of civilians, the vast majority of which are Muslims themselves, and a very large chunk of those victims being girls their own age.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Honestly, it's upsetting enough not make me want to raise a teenage girl in a world like this - or maybe better to not reproduce at all.

It's a long standing French tradition to want to surrender and join the other side.

Saying they are French girls and calling them Western could be misleading. My guess is that they are Muslim and want to support their Religion.

Well you also have this her in Europe, pro ISIS demonstrations:

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/d933b2…

I think people supporting those or Hamas are just not well in their heads. Or have become too far Muslims and think this is the right way. I link this mentality to the one of the Catholic church some centuries ago, kill everyone that don't belive what we do, even if it is Christian.

Well it depends on what your description of "Western" is. For most it's Europe and the Americas whilst Asia is the East. I'm sure you already knew that, but that might be why.

Why?? A bit of a ridiculous question... Why did Unabomber attack people who helped technological advances? Why did Timothy McVeigh blow up half of Oklahoma city? Why some american people enjoy going with tons of weapons into schools and theaters to kill children??

There are no real answers to that... They are insane, that's all. Whether it's because of religion, society or both combined... The executioner of James Foley most likely grew up in London's suburbs.

The day when religions will stop existing, then the world will be a much better place... Until then, be prepared to deal with stuff like this for a LONG time.

Yes, they most likely have something wrong in their heads... But people supporting the bombing of Gaza and Israel's actions are not better ("Hey everyone! Why not close Gaza to journalists so that we can send burning Magnesium on civilian populations??")

EDIT: my bad, white phosphorate lol

In the geopolitical realm, "The West" is a term for Europe and North America. It has less to do with geography and more to do with NATO/UN "teams".

In to ask if anyone has any good unbiased reading on the Gaza conflict. For some reason it's a topic that bothets me and I'm neither Jewish nor Palistinian, nor am I religious at all for that matter.

As you said they are teenagers, they are at an age where they are trying to define themselves. Add to that the fact that we live in an era of hyper-mediatisation.

Everything they read in the nexspapers or see in the news is about war, and the western countries not doing anything. I believe they try to go there to do something we (as a whole) don't do. And I think the number of people wanted to join jihad increased with the conflict in Syria.

Mash all the above with the fact that they are easily influenced on people, and you got the perfect recipe to recruit teenagers.

Yeah, that's what I meant I just for got the NATO/UN, but that's most of the world anyway so I didn't think it was necessary,

I'm talking about their religion overriding the 'western' label. But, that's just my opinion.

If they want to support Islam, they wouldn't be joining a terrorist group.

My personal outlook on the situation is this: Young people can be easily influenced by causes and individuals that can rationalize well. Unfortunately, much of what is going on in the Middle East has more to do with money/power than religion/noble causes, but the leaders can spin it to seem like it's the opposite.

From what I understand, Israel says that Gaza is their land for some religious reason. While Hamas believes that it is their land and they are fighting over the land, I think of it as the violent version of the dispute between Japan and China disputed islands. It's probably a lot more complicated than from what I understand.

That's my basic grasp on it, and that Israel has the full backing of the US and a far more advanced fighting force than Hamas.

I presume both sides believe it is their holy land.

I've also heard that Hama/Gaza attacked Israel first and Israel was just retaliating. I'm not to sure about whats happening because you know how the media is.

Read 'A Peace to End All Peace' by David Fromkin. It covers the history of that part of the world from the fall of the Ottoman Empire to the modern conflicts. It's a bit of a tome, but it's more comprehensive and less biased than anything I've found on the internet.

If you've read that you know more than 99.9% of people including the media and the guys that are out there killing each other today (with the exception of high level government ministers)

I don't know. I know this is incredibly late and terribly inaccurate, but I really don't know what would motivate a teenager in Europe to join ISIS. But teens throughout history have found a myriad of things to be disaffected with, so there's that.

Sorry about that.
